Archaeol


Upper classes: LB LBG LBGA

Archaeol is 2,3-di-O-alkyl sn-glycerol diether, i.e., two isopranyl chains (isoprane is saturated isoprene) are ether-attached to sn-2 and -3 positions of glycerol. Its stereochemical configuration is enantiomeric to bacterial/eukaryotic phosphatidyl glycerols where two fatty acids are acylated to sn-1 and -2 positions.

Hydroxyarchaeol is present only among methanogens and is used as a biomarker for anoxic environment.

ヒドロキシアーキオールはメタン生成菌にのみみられるため、嫌気性環境であることのバイオマーカーとして使われます。
